UBE Updates Corporate Philosophy and Management Principles

April 1, 2019

TOKYO, April 1, 2019—Ube Industries, Ltd. today announced that it has updated its corporate philosophy and management principles.

UBE was founded over 120 years ago in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, with roots as a coal mine operated by a silent partnership.

UBE was founded on the principles of “coexistence and mutual prosperity” with communities and “from finite mining to infinite industry” espoused by founder Sukesaku Watanabe, the latter signifying UBE’s diversification from being dependent on finite coal resources, into businesses that create infinite value. UBE has continued to embrace these founding principles, expanding the scope of its business while adapting to changing times.

UBE has clearly restated its corporate philosophy and management principles as a basis for its business efforts in meeting ever-diversifying and complex needs, and creating new value for society. The Company seeks to share its philosophy and principles with all stakeholders.

In accordance with these changes, the Company has also revised the UBE Group Action Guidelines, which were established as a template to guide the business conduct of all personnel who belong to UBE and UBE Group companies.
