Junior Koshien Science Championship

The UBE Group was a corporate partner of the Seventh Junior Koshien Science Championship organized by the Japan Science and Technology Association (JST). In 2019, a total of 28,231 junior high school students competed in prefectural qualifying tournaments for a chance to participate in the national tournament. Making it to the national championship were 282 students in teams representing 47 prefectures, who competed on their written and practical knowledge of science. The team from Aichi Prefecture emerged as the winner of the 2019 championship, while the Ube Industries Award in recognition of top-tier results from a first-year team was awarded to the Ibaraki Prefecture team.

Purpose of Initiative (Objective)
  • Expand the base knowledge of children who have an interest in science and help foster talented human resources
  • Provide a place that conveys science as being enjoyable and fun as well as the significance of chemistry, to junior high school students from around Japan
